Afin de vous soumettre des version j'ouvre donc ce nouveau sujet: Silk Brocaded Vest, Circa 1850, that Belonged to Confederate Brigadier General Lloyd Tilghman with Ink Script Presentati Silk Brocaded Vest, Circa 1850, that Belonged to Confederate Brigadier General Lloyd Tilghman with Ink Script Presentation on the Inside "Capt. Tilgman/ From/ McGrath Sarmiento". (See previous lot) Tilghman was the grandson of Tench Tilghman who served as aide-de-camp to Gen. Washington during the American Revolution and hanging from the lower button hole of the vest, from a white silk ribbon, is an old 2.5" x 3.5" typewritten card, apparently attached by the family when the vest was loaned to a museum, stating "This vest was worn by Col. Tench Tilghman, A. D. C. to General Washington Loaned by Mrs. Sidelll Tilghman". The period of the vest, coupled with Tench Tilghman's death in 1786, leaves little question, however, that the vest belonged to Lloyd rather than Tench Tilghman. Interestingly, Gen. Tilghman worked on railroads in Panama, both before and after his Mexican War service as a captain of artillery. The vest unquestionably dating to this 1840-1850 period. The front of the vest composed of fine white silk brocade with three pockets and rolled collar. Ten button front, the buttons covered with woven thread. Very fine condition, just some minor deterioration under the arms. Belted cotton back, also lined with cotton, with a kid leather liner along the bottom edge. Entirely, and exquisitely, hand stitched. Attractive and historic piece of period costume owned by a gallant Confederate general killed in action at Champion's Hill , May 16, 1863. | |

| An identified Civil War Vest of Surgeon Charles Bunce, 59th Illinois, a high quality dark blue wool vest in a distinctly non-regulation "V-neck" pattern with the name "C. Bunce/59th Ill. Inf." penned in old ink inside the collar. The vest is a very well made, showy article of kit reflecting this officer's personal tastes, having the entire front edge trimmed with gold bullion. There are 36 tiny brass ball buttons of the kind found on Victorian mess dress uniforms of the period | |

| This antique Victorian era men's thistle roller print cotton waistcoat vest dates from 1850. It is hand stitched and made of an off white ecru color cotton pique textured fabric, with a monochrome roller printed design with yellow thistles done in a deliberate imitation of copperplate printing. The thistle was a symbol of nobility. This dashing dandy gentlemen's early waistcoat vest has a fold over lapel collar, two bottom and one top slit pocket and 3 glass star buttons for closure on the bottom front (one is missing). There is a linen fabric backing, with an adjustable buckle strap on back. The vest measures 20 inches long, with a 36 inch waist and 38 inch chest. It is in as-is fair condition and has not been cleaned. There are several small faint age spots, as well as staining and small holes on the backing (see close-up). The back collar has some fraying. This is truly a wonderful early Victorian vest and textile print. | |

| This antique Victorian era gentlemen's silk brocade wedding waistcoat vest dates from the 1830s. It is hand stitched and made of an off white ivory color silk damask brocade fabric, with a crackle crazing pattern and silver metallic thread floral designs. There is a white linen fabric backing, with back adjustment tabs and the original linen lacing ties. It is lined in linen, with padding sewn inside across the front chest. There is a rolled lapel collar, fitted short cropped cinched waist, three front slit pockets and tiny silk covered buttons for closure on the front. This dapper gentlemen's waistcoat vest is a small size in which he would have been corseted to draw in the waistline, prevalent during the Romanticism period. The vest measures 17 inches long, with a 28 inch waist and 34 inch chest. It is in excellent clean wearable condition and looks to have been worn once by the groom on his wedding day. There is a small patched mend repair under one arm which is difficult to see (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful rare early waistcoat vest. | |
