Original Civil War copper Signal Corps canteen used to carry fuel for the night-time signal torches. These were meant to be carried in the field as part of a signal party's kit. 9 1/2 inches in diameter and 3 inches thick, about 12 inches tall from the spout to the base if set upright. Four copper brackets 2 1/4 by 1/2 inch for the carrying strap. Screw top secured to body of canteen by short chain. Partial leather strap with it, about 1 7/8 inches wide and 63 inches long.
